The whole journey

100

About two years of Thursdays. You won't do them perfectly. You just keep going.

My son is seven. For a long stretch I gave him whatever was left of me after work, which on most days wasn't much.

I always meant to do more. I'd think of teaching him to whistle or juggle, or how to change a tire. Then Saturday would come, we'd both end up on screens, and it would be Monday again.

I didn't need more parenting advice. I needed someone to hand me the thing to do this week, and to make it small enough that a tired parent would still say yes.

So I'm building it. A new play every week, picked for both of you. Some take ten minutes on a Tuesday night. Some fill a Sunday afternoon. Failing counts. "We tried" counts. The only rule is that you do it together.

I'm making this for him, and for every parent who has looked up and wondered where the year went.

The night you open everything

The letters from Play 5. The keepsakes you saved along the way. The highlight reel of you both failing and laughing. It's a quiet evening at home that ends in a long hug. Your book arrives that week.
